KARACHI: Taking sports entrepreneurship to a new level, the PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi has announced to build a cricket stadium in Khyber Agency and to start a talent hunt program in the tribal region.
“The stadium in Bara, Khyber Agency will be named after Pakistan’s flamboyant all-rounder and start cricketer Shahid Afridi, who’s also the captain of Peshawar Zalmi,” said Javed Afridi, owner of the PSL franchise.
“This is a project of Peshawar Zalmi foundation. We have also allocated a land to build the stadium in Khyber,” he added.
A formal inauguration will take place later with players of Peshawar Zalmi franchise.
Javed Afridi said that Peshawar Zalmi foundation will work on lines of Manchester United foundation with the aim of promoting sports and sportsmen in country.
Afridi said he will soon meet people from Manchester United foundation in UK in this regard.
He added that players and coaching staff of Peshawar Zalmi will also launch talent hunt program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to unearth new talent.
“Our coaching staff will start a talent hunt campaign at school and college level in KP,” he said, adding that Peshawar Zalmi team will also have a camp at Army Public School in Peshawar.
“We’ll make sure Peshawar Zalmi foundation spreads into all parts of KP and FATA.
“This area was much under terrorists since 2006. Now life gets into normalcy after security forces efforts. Wave of peace has begun,” said Afridi.
Peshawar Zalmi’s team will be led by Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s T20i captain. The team has also signed top cricketers like Wahab Riaz, Kamran Akmal, Muhammad Hafeez, Chris Jordan and Darren Sammy
