In match No. 9 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017, Darren Sammy’s Peshawar Zalmi will take on Sarfraz Ahmed’s Quetta Gladiators on Friday. It is one of the high-intensity matches of the tournament as both teams are currently occupying the first two spots in the table with Zalmi securing the first position. Zalmi have won two of the three matches they have played and their only defeat came against Islamabad United. Gladiators have equal number of victories from as many matches but are behind Zalmi on net run-rate. Their only defeat also came against Islamabad United.
Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has led the side by example, as he has been the backbone of their batting. His unbeaten 56 against Karachi Kings was a major contribution towards the victory. However, the star of the match was Rillee Rossouw who scored 76 not out. Rossouw has been a consistent performer with the bat while among the bowlers, Mohammad Nawaz (3) and Tymal Mills have been on top of their game. They have a strong side and will look to post a dominant victory over the table-toppers to get over the defeat in the last match against Misbah-ul-haq’s Islamabad United. Zalmi started their journey with a close defeat but never had to look back as they won both their next matches. The team has many big names like Shahid Afridi, Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan, Mohammad Hafeez etc to take care of the batting. They have bowlers like Chris Jordan, Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan who are the big names but Hasan Ali too has impressed one and all with his consistency.
