Islamabad United vs. Quetta Gladiators 17th T20 Match Prediction 24 Feb 2017
The 17th game of the Pakistan Super League will see the Islamabad United take on the Quetta Gladiators in Dubai on Friday in what will be the second game of the day. This game will kick start at 8 pm local time (4 pm GMT or 9 pm Pakistan time).
Islamabad United Squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Shane Watson, Steven Finn, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Samuel Badree, Mohammad Sami, Khalid Latif, Brad Haddin, Sam Billings, Hussain Talat, Amad Butt, Dwayne Smith, Ben Duckkett, Shadab Khan, Zohaib Khan, Saeed Ajmal, Imran Khalid, Asif Ali, Rumman Raees, Syed Muzammil Shah
Quetta Gladiators Squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (captain), Umar Gul, Asad Shafiq, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Nawaz, Kevin Pietersen, Luke Wright, Rilee Rossouw, Mahmudullah Riyad, Anwar Ali, Tymal Mills, Hassan Khan, Nathan McCullum, Thisara Perera, Bismillah Khan, Mir Hamza, Zulfiqar Babar, Saad Nasim, Umar Amin, Noor Wali
With the playoffs quickly approaching it will be pertinent to note that the Quetta Gladiators have already managed to reach the final four with their win over the Karachi Kings on Thursday.
In that game, they came back strongly after the Kings had reached 63 without loss in the eighth over to restrict Karachi to 154 in the first innings of the match before Asad Shafiq showed a side of T20 cricket that not too many might have been aware of. Shafiq hammered a half-century and was involved in a 105-run stand for the first wicket with Sarfaraz Ahmed to guide Quetta to a facile victory.
There was a clatter of wickets in the end but Quetta got to the target in 19 overs which means they became the first side to qualify for the playoffs with nine points from six games.
However they will consider their job isn’t quite done given there is a big advantage to be had if they finish at the top of the table – or even second – as they get a second chance to qualify for the playoffs even if they lose. Which also means they will want to keep coming hard in this game against Islamabad United.
Islamabad are currently on the table with six points from six games but that could quickly change depending on Lahore’s result in the previous game of the day. Even Lahore is on six while their opponents in that game Peshawar are on five so either team winning that encounter will take them to slightly beyond Islamabad.
If Peshawar win, they get to seven and push Islamabad down to the fourth spot while a Lahore win will take them two points clear of Islamabad and make it tougher for the Misbah-led United to get to the second spot of this tightly-contested points table.
