Civil Society File Petition in IHC to Close Facebook Temporarily. Advocate Mohammad Tariq Asad has filed a writ petition on behalf of entire Civil Society of Pakistan to close social media giant Facebook in the country. The petitioner in his writ requested the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to ban Facebook until the government permanently delete all the blasphemous pages.
Tariq Asad had filed petition through his counsel and cited Secretary Ministry of Interior, Secretary Ministry of Information and Technology, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) through its Chairman, Federal Investigation Authority through its Director General, Inspector General of Islamabad police and Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (PEMRA) as respondents.

The petitioner said in his petition that:
“He had filed a petition against posting of blasphemous material on social media and the court took serious notice of it and directed all the concerned departments including Ministry of Interior, Ministry of I.T., Ministry of Information, PTA, Police, and FIA to take immediate action to close/block the pages.”
He also added that in case no serious notice is taken against mentioned issue by the government, the civil society will start a movement in the country.
Tariq also stated in his petition that on 9th March, 2017 chairman PTA informed that all those pages haven blocked on Facebook where as such material is still present in the form of sketches, writings and videos against Holy Prophet (PBUH), Suhab-e-Kram, his wives (Azwaje Mutaharat) and Sacred book of Quran-e-Pak as well as God Almighty.
